Your Mission Statement and how vital it is to your success
As we've spoken about in other articles, the MISSION statement is your operational plan of how to run your business in order to reach your VISION as laid out in your vision statement.
It contains many vital items of information but one of critical importance that very few businesses have understood. Then again, very few businesses ( 5% ) are excelling.
This is a comment about how your business differs from its peers. What stands you above your competition. Or to put it another way, a way that your customers will be thinking.....
Why should customers buy from you
Your mission statement is more comprehensive that your vision statement as it must detail how, in broad terms, you will get to where you are headed. It should set the ethos or culture of your organisation.
The Business Builder Clubs Mission statement is......
"The Business Builder Club embodies a 'can do attitude' with fanatical customer service and ethical, honest business practices. We will make available high quality, proven business advice and education to everyone who engages with us
to ensure that our customers have all the tools they require to improve their own businesses and reap the rewards this process brings in terms of significant personal development and financial gain.
Our services and products will always be of the highest quality and deliver outstanding value to our customers using proven and reliable techniques to deliver significant gains.
Our customers will work with us by request because they want to build better, stronger, more profitable businesses. They will never be committed by contract or other limiting device but continue to work with us because the partnership of our advice and education with their efforts and actions, brings them greater and more significant personal and financial gain in the shortest possible time than would have been achieved by them alone.
After working with The Business Builder Club our customers will be left with a highly valuable business and their investment in our services will have been returned many times over"
This statement lets our team members know what is expected of them. It lets our customers know what they can expect from us when they engage with us. It lets our customers and prospects know what they can expect as a result of engaging with us, and we believe it gives a clear statement of why a customer should work with us and not one of our competitors.
It talks about who we are, what we do, how we do it, who our customer may be, and what will result from working with us.
Now ours is quite brief but we believe it captures what we are about and why we are here.
Yours may be longer but it doesn't matter. What matters are that it reflects what you want to happen.
Mission Statement Checklist:
There are no hard and fast rules here. It has to be your voice speaking as a passionate business owner, but below are a few check points that you can judge your statement by:
* Is it your voice
* Does it enthuse and motivate you
* Is it looking forward to what you will do
* Does it answer your customer's question "Why should I buy from you?"
* Will it pull your business along to a better place
* Will it motivate and inspire your team
* Does it stretch your organization to be better or is it too easily met
* Does it work toward your vision
* Does it energise you
* Can you lead your team to achieve it.
* Is it aspirational
* Does it establish value
Just like the vision statement this should be front and center in your business and all team members must want to buy into it especially the leaders in your organization. Use it to flavour everything you do and it will begin to pull you along toward your vision.
Use it to help gain customers, motivate and lead your team, recruit new people. Use it to establish value and differentiate your business to lift you out of the price war. Why do you think people buy BMWs, Jaguars, and Porches when they could get high quality vehicles from Ford, Skoda, GM etc.
With a Vision statement and Mission statement in place that you and your team believe in you are now ready to grow, quickly and sustainably. Don't loose sight of these statements and don't stop using them to inform what you do every day.
